Cardiovascular Check
The most advanced strategy for coronary risk assessment is a 'multi-marker' approach which combines several risk factors, rather than only measuring the traditional markers of high blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking and diabetes.

What we measure
LIPOPROTEINS
Advanced lipid markers that provide more accurate cardiovascular risk assessment than traditional cholesterol tests.
- Apolipoprotein A1
- Protein in HDL ('good') cholesterol. It helps start the process for HDL to remove bad types of cholesterol from your body.
- Apolipoprotein B
- Protein in LDL particles. Apo B containing lipoproteins are the ones most likely to enter the wall of the arteries and cause atherosclerosis.
- Ratio (APO B / APO A-1)
- Indicates the cholesterol balance between potentially atherogenic (bad) and anti-atherogenic (good) particles. For men should be 0.9 or under, for women 0.8 or under.
- Lipoprotein(a)
- High levels increase your risk of atherosclerosis and is an inherited genetic condition. Levels remain virtually constant throughout life.
INFLAMMATION
Inflammation plays a key role in cardiovascular disease. These markers assess inflammatory risk.
- High Sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP)
- A high-sensitivity C-reactive protein test measures low levels of CRP and may be used to help evaluate an individual for risk of cardiovascular disease. Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory process.
CHOLESTEROL
Traditional cholesterol markers that are still important for cardiovascular risk assessment.
- Total Cholesterol
- High total cholesterol is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
- LDL
- LDL (low density lipoprotein) cholesterol is often called 'bad cholesterol' because it contributes to plaque that can clog arteries.
- HDL
- HDL (high density lipoprotein) cholesterol is often called 'good cholesterol' and is protective against atherosclerosis.
- Triglycerides
- The main storage form of fatty acids. Elevated levels may contribute to hardening of the arteries and increase heart disease risk.
- Cholesterol Ratio
- A calculation of your HDL cholesterol over your total cholesterol, used to calculate your likelihood of developing heart disease.
