What we measure
BENEFICIAL BACTERIA
Beneficial bacteria play a crucial role in digestion, immune function, and overall gut health. These bacteria help break down food, produce vitamins, and protect against harmful pathogens.
- Lactobacillus species
- Beneficial bacteria that produce lactic acid, supporting gut barrier function and immune health.
- Bifidobacterium species
- Key beneficial bacteria that help digest fiber, produce B vitamins, and support immune function.
- Akkermansia muciniphila
- A beneficial bacterium that helps maintain the gut lining and supports metabolic health.
- Faecalibacterium prausnitzii
- An important anti-inflammatory bacterium that produces butyrate, a key energy source for colon cells.
PATHOGENIC BACTERIA
Pathogenic bacteria can cause inflammation, digestive issues, and other health problems when present in excessive amounts.
- E. coli (pathogenic strains)
- Certain strains of E. coli can cause gastrointestinal infections and inflammation.
- Klebsiella pneumoniae
- Can cause gut inflammation and has been linked to autoimmune conditions.
- Citrobacter species
- Opportunistic pathogens that can cause infections when gut balance is disrupted.
- Enterobacter species
- Can contribute to gut inflammation and may be associated with inflammatory bowel disease.
PARASITES
Parasitic infections can cause digestive symptoms, nutrient malabsorption, and chronic health issues.
- Blastocystis hominis
- A common parasite that may cause digestive symptoms in some individuals.
- Dientamoeba fragilis
- A parasite that can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, and other digestive symptoms.
- Entamoeba histolytica
- A pathogenic parasite that can cause severe gastrointestinal infections.
- Giardia lamblia
- A common parasite that causes giardiasis, leading to diarrhea and malabsorption.
YEAST & FUNGI
Yeast overgrowth, particularly Candida, can disrupt gut balance and contribute to various symptoms.
- Candida albicans
- The most common yeast that can overgrow and cause digestive and systemic symptoms.
- Candida species (other)
- Other Candida species that may contribute to yeast overgrowth.
- Geotrichum
- A fungus that can cause infections in immunocompromised individuals.
DIGESTIVE MARKERS
These markers assess how well your digestive system is functioning and processing food.
- Elastase
- A marker of pancreatic function and enzyme production for protein digestion.
- Secretory IgA
- An immune marker that indicates gut immune function and response to pathogens.
- Anti-gliadin IgA
- An immune marker that may indicate sensitivity to gluten.
- Calprotectin
- A marker of gut inflammation, elevated in inflammatory bowel disease.
- Beta-glucuronidase
- An enzyme that can affect hormone metabolism and detoxification.
- Short-chain fatty acids
- Produced by beneficial bacteria, these support gut health and reduce inflammation.
