Vaginal Microbiome Check
Complex ecosystems of microbes live in the female reproductive tract. A disruption in this ecosystem, usually a deficiency of 'good' bacteria and an overgrowth of 'bad' bacteria, can result in infection and unwanted symptoms.

What we measure
BENEFICIAL BACTERIA
Lactobacilli are the dominant beneficial bacteria in a healthy vaginal microbiome, maintaining an acidic environment that prevents infections.
- Lactobacillus crispatus
- The most protective Lactobacillus species, maintaining optimal vaginal pH and preventing infections.
- Lactobacillus iners
- A common Lactobacillus species, though less protective than L. crispatus.
- Lactobacillus gasseri
- Beneficial bacteria that supports vaginal health.
- Lactobacillus jensenii
- Another beneficial Lactobacillus species that maintains vaginal health.
OPPORTUNISTIC PATHOGENS
These bacteria can cause infections when the vaginal microbiome is disrupted.
- Gardnerella vaginalis
- Associated with bacterial vaginosis when present in high amounts.
- Atopobium vaginae
- Often associated with bacterial vaginosis.
- Prevotella species
- Can contribute to bacterial vaginosis and inflammation.
- Mobiluncus
- Associated with bacterial vaginosis.
YEAST & FUNGI
Yeast overgrowth can cause vaginal infections and discomfort.
- Candida albicans
- The most common cause of yeast infections.
- Candida glabrata
- Can cause recurrent yeast infections.
- Candida tropicalis
- Another yeast species that can cause infections.
SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS
Screening for common STIs that can affect vaginal health.
- Chlamydia trachomatis
- Common STI that can cause pelvic inflammatory disease if untreated.
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Bacterial STI that can cause serious complications if untreated.
- Trichomonas vaginalis
- Parasitic STI that can cause vaginal inflammation and discharge.
- Mycoplasma genitalium
- Emerging STI that can cause urethritis and pelvic inflammatory disease.
- Ureaplasma
- Can cause infections and may be associated with infertility.
VIRAL INFECTIONS
Viral infections that can affect vaginal and reproductive health.
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
- Can cause cervical changes and is associated with cervical cancer risk.
- Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)
- Can cause genital herpes outbreaks.
VAGINAL HEALTH MARKERS
Markers that assess overall vaginal health and inflammation.
- pH Level
- Optimal vaginal pH is 3.8-4.5. Elevated pH indicates disruption of beneficial bacteria.
- White Blood Cells
- Elevated levels indicate inflammation or infection.
- Epithelial Cells
- Assessed to understand vaginal cell health.
